Did You Know...?
🦎 1. It's a hometown exclusive!
The Barton Springs Salamander is endemic to Barton Springs, meaning it only lives in that small area. You won’t find it anywhere else in the world!
🌊 2. It lives its whole life underwater.
Unlike many salamanders that go through a land-dwelling adult phase, this species is fully aquatic its entire life — it even breathes through its gills as an adult.
🧡 3. It's protected by law.
It’s listed as endangered under the Endangered Species Act, and a lot of conservation efforts go into making sure Barton Springs stays a safe habitat.
🔍 4. They're tiny!
Adults are usually only 2.5 to 3 inches long, including the tail — so they’re easy to miss (unless you’re Sally).
